There are many gaming monitors on the market now catering for a whole range of needs, and whilst the current trend for many is getting the highest resolution possible there will always be a core of players who just want the highest frame rate achievable on good old 1080p HD.

This is where the Acer Predator XB253Q comes in.  If all you need is HD then there are cheaper options than this out there, but none of the low end choices will run at a sizzling 240hz.

Build Quality

The Acer Predator XB253QGX is aimed at the gamer market, the thin bezels are attractive and the stand looks good without looking too out of place in a home office environment.  I’m not into the whole over the top gamer styled gear myself, but like the more subtle approach on this model.  Everything clicks into place, no tools required to attach the stand.  You get tilt, height and rotation adjustments with the included stand.  It’s not the biggest monitor out there and some may consider this form factor small by modern standards.  But at least, at only around 5kg in weight, you won’t have any problems setting it up by yourself.

You get all the ports you need for a modern PC setup, that includes 2 HDMI 2.0,  a DisplayPort 1.2a, and a few USB 3.0 ports thrown in to for those that need them (handy for back lighting your monitor, I’ve found!).

Performance

The XB253QGXhas good specs on paper and the resulting images are stunning.  It has a 99 percent sRGB colour gamut to ensure realistic image reproduction, a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1 and also supports HDR.  Both games and video are going to look natural and balanced on this monitor, with fast moving images appearing sharp and blur free.

The predator might not be the brightest or richest display on the market but this is reasonably reflected in the asking price.  It comes into its own when you are looking for a gamer friendly screen that will give clear sharp images with low response times and a fast refresh rate.

We give the Acer Predator XB253Q a 5 out of 5 rating. Want to know what existing owners of the monitor think? You can read real user reviews here.
