The MG279Q is the IPS version of the MG278Q which you can read about in more detail here. This 27″, 2560 x 1440 gaming monitor is aimed at the serious gamer and comes with a range of features that will give gamers many hours of satisfyingly smooth game play for years to come. A fully adjustable stand, a range of genre defined colour pre-sets combined with the AMD backed FreeSync system for tear free gaming all help to set this apart as a premium display.

Whilst this monitor seems to be referred to as IPS, the panel technology is actually AHVA. This offers the superior colour and viewing angles expected compared to a TN panel but also allows for the faster response times seen on this model.

Build Quality

The ASUS design is sleek and attractive, simple clear lines give it a stylish edge without is looking like it is targeted for a kid’s bedroom as some gaming monitors appear to be. Of course there is still a touch of red colouring lest we need reminding that this is for serious gamers! As expected a this price point, the monitor comes with a fully adjustable stand that includes tilt, height and swivel adjustments. You can even rotate it into portrait mode for those niche strategy games that suit this orientation! Setup is reassuringly simple, the base simply snaps into position.

The MG279Q comes with all the ports you could possible want, including DisplayPort, two HDMI inputs, and even a DVI port. The USB 3.0 ports support fast charging and a handy headphone socket is provided for your convenience.

Performance

The MG279Q provides a colourful clear gaming experience thanks to that IPS panel backed by a 1440p QHD display running at 144hz. This display really does live up to its promise of being a gamer friendly monitor.

It scores an impressive sub 10ms latency on professional lag testing, which puts it slightly ahead of its rivals. That said, this level of latency is not going to be significant on its own, but as any gamer knows, you have to keep on top of all the lag because it all adds up and after a point it can become noticeable.

We give the ASUS MG279Q a 4.5 out of 5 rating. Want to know what existing owners of the monitor think? You can read real user reviews here.

FreeSync and a 144Hz refresh rate. The MG279Q has got you covered for gaming! You'll need a very good graphics card to run a QHD screen at full pelt but if you have one, that IPS screen is going to look damn good cruising along at 144 frames per second!
