This Dell forms part of the ‘Professional range’ there is also another version in the UltraSharp range, the U2414H. Previously the pro range had used TN panels which, to be frank, didn’t look as good as the IPS based UltraSharp models. However the P2414H features an AH-IPS panel making it a more interesting prospect.
Build Quality
The P2414H is a decent enough looking monitor, the rounded edges help to soften the tone ensuring it doesn’t quite look like something your corporate IT department setup. The outer frame, the bezel, isn’t the thinnest but it still manages to look smart enough. The simple stand feels more rigid, which is just as well, and features a silver matt plastic look that is faily typical on Dell designs. It feels modern enough and should go well in a home office.
The stand is fully adjustable with just over 5″ of height gain, tilt and swivel, and you can also rotate it round to portrait mode should you have a requirement to do so. Connectivity is covered with DisplayPort 1.2a, DVI-D and VGA inputs. There is no HDMI here so this won’t be the best choice if you were planning to hook up a console or DVD player – but then this is the “professional” model. You can get DVI to HDMI converters though if you do get stuck. There are 4 downstream USB 2.0 ports, and 1 upstream.
Performance

Dell quote a grey to grey response time of 8ms, which at first glance might panic gamers hungry for a super low response time. IPS screens these days routinely muster a 5ms response and TN panels are faster still with 1ms routinely reported. But the good news is that the IPS panel provides bright vibrant accurate colour reproduction with excellent viewing angles. You don’t get the fast drop off of in accuracy that you’ll have with TN technology.
Professional reviews cite the decent out of the box performance but this screen comes will a whole range of presets to meet your taste. This includes multimedia, movie and of course – a game mode. Input lag also comes out code in testing, low enough to ensure no problems when gaming. Response times might be quoted on the high side but game performance is reported as good with no perceivable blurring above and beyond the limitation of our own eyes.

Should I buy the Dell P2414H?
A good all round professional looking monitor that performs well in games. Some gamers might find the 60hz refresh rate a limitation but the image quality is excellent. A good quality IPS screen with an attractive price to match. If you are having some doubts about this purchase then why not read some real owner reviews and see what other buyers think.
