Dell S2715H Review

The first thing to mention on the Dell S2715H is that this is a glossy screened monitor. Matte and gloss screens both have their pros and cons and which is the “best” is mostly down to personal taste. Gloss screens have an extra appearance of clarity but they do reflect more light which can be annoying depending on your environment and lighting setup.

This model features an IPS type panel, 1080p resolution and a max refresh rate of just 60hz. It’s going to be more suited to home office type setups rather than leisure use.

If you aren’t a fan of the larger 27″ format, and I wouldn’t blame you, I prefer smaller screens myself, then you might want to check out the 24″ model here.

Build Quality

The Dell is an appealing and professional looking monitor. I would gladly have it on display at my work or home office. It features a very typical, for Dell, silver stand which provides ample support however it doesn’t appear to be the most adjustable in the world. Fortunately it does have VESA mounting compatibility if you need more flexibility.

The thin bezels make this model particularly good for multi screen setups, place two of these side by side for an extra wide desktop with minimal obstruction down the middle.

It’s very much a glossy monitor so if not positioned suitably you could suffer from unwanted reflections but on the plus side the glossy screen does give enhanced vibrancy and clarity giving it that added ‘glossy pop’. My laptop has a gloss screen and I have to say it does look great, but it is true the reflections can get in the way. A mild anti glare coating does help to reduce this compared to the competition.

The monitor’s stand only has a tilt option which is disappointing but then 100 x 100 VESA mounting is supported which I always recommend. When I moved to monitor arms I wished I had done it sooner, greater flexibility and saves desk space. They don’t have to cost much these days either.

Performance

The Dell panel is based on IPS technology, whilst more costly these panels are known for their superior colour accuracy and wider viewing angles. You can expect top quality image reproduction when you view within a 178 degree arc.

Responsiveness is improved compared to older S series models, but note this is a 60hz screen so it’s never going to feel as smooth as a monitor with fast refresh rates. If gaming is your main driver then you might want to look at some gamer ready monitors within this price bracket. Professional reviewers do however report back low latency, so you won’t have to worry about input lag.

Colour accuracy is good, this panel delivers vibrant natural colours that will look good in games, video and application work.

We give the Dell S2715H a 4.5 out of 5 rating. Want to know what existing owners of the monitor think? You can read real user reviews here.

Should I buy the Dell S2715H?

As expected from Dell, you get great image quality and colour accuracy. This model is surpassed by more expensive models from Dell but if you are looking for a high quality 27" monitor and don't mind the limitations of the stand then this is a nice choice. If you are having some doubts about this purchase then why not read some real owner reviews and see what other buyers think.
