Dell SE2417HG Review

The Dell SE2417HG is a basic offering on the lower end of the scale that aims to deliver solid performance for the price.  It is a full HD screen that will meet the needs of home workers and casual PC gamers or console fans.

There are few gimmicks involved here but Dell have worked to provide solid display performance ahead of these extras that may not appeal to those looking for an all round monitor for a home study.

Pitched at this price it would make a nice choice for someone looking for duel screens on a budget.

Build Quality

The Dell monitor’s familiar black and grey theme is instantly recognisable as their well regarded brand.  Being at the budget end you’ll notice that the screen’s bezels aren’t as thin as you’ll find on their premium hardware but they are typical for this price point.  On the plus side, the compact nature of this model allows you to push it right back to the edge of your desk if required.

The stand has a small footprint and whilst it provides a solid base by default it isn’t the most adjustable on the market.  That said, it is VESA 100 x 100 compatible so if this is an issue for you then a monitor support arm is an affordable solution (I personally always use monitor arms regardless).

Connectivity is also rather limited.  You get two HDMI ports which means that you can simultaneously connect up your XBox and PC.  There is also a legacy VGA port if you are using this with an older computer.  No speakers included, but there is a headphone jack if that’s useful to you.

Performance

The headline stats are all on par for a monitor in this price range.  You get a TN panel, good for fast response times and keeping costs down, an HD screen at the standard 1920 x 1080 resolution and a run of the mill 60Hz refresh rate.
