The Iiyama is a 28″ UHD screen (that’s a massive 3840 x 2160 pixels on your screen!) from the Japanese computer manufacturer Iiyama. This is a fairly big screen so you’ll want to make sure you have the space for it, and you’ll need an appropriate graphics card to support the UHD resolution but if you are ready for it then the ProLite B2888UHSU is set to give you a crisp clear image that will blow the socks of the old fashioned 1080p HD screens of old.
Let’s have a closer look at what the B2888UHSU can do.
The ProLite is a very straight forward design, which is actually quite refreshing for those of us that prefer an understated professional look. The over all build is a classic black chassis with a small enough bezel. It’s not the thinnest but neither is it a big clunky border. There is very little to garnish the framework other that the model number neatly typed out across the top left hand corner. This screen will look just fine in anyone’s study.
The base allows for the usual tilt, swivel and height adjustments but note there is no portrait mode on this model. I’ve never rotated my screen so this wouldn’t bother me but if you prefer that orientation you might want to look else where. On the upside, the Iiyama has excellent connectivity with every option catered for, you get two HDMI ports (one is MHL compatible), two DisplayPort sockets, plus one DVI and one VGA for those who like it old school.
Note that not all apps are optimised to run on UHD screens so the text can be hard to read in some cases even at 28″. That said Windows 10 can handle upscaling and does a pretty good job in most cases. This should only get better in time, but it’s something to think about though.
Pro reviewers have had good results from their colour testing, the out of the box performance is good for a TN panel and colour accuracy is good enough for photo editing. Side on viewing angles are actually very good for a TN monitor, but still limited. Vertical viewing angles didn’t come up so well so you’ll want to take advantage of the height adjustment to make sure it sits neatly at eye level.
Gaming performance is good, although you don’t get adaptive sync or advanced refresh rates included. But with overdrive enabled response times are decent and input lag is too low to make an impact on your gaming experience. The biggest issue you’ll have with this monitor is ensuring you have a top range graphics card capable of powering the UHD display! You won’t want to pair this with an entry level card such as the GTX960, you really need to go high end to get respectable results.
