The LG 27UD68P is a fine looking 4k monitor that delivers 27″ of beautiful imagery from top to bottom. In my oh so humble opinion this is one good looking screen with its beautiful slim bezel and elegant yet robust looking stand. Note, it is also available in silver LG 27UD68-W which will keep style conscious gamers especially happy.
But this screen isn’t just about looks, it also delivers a stunning display at UHD resolution, aka 4k, and includes the open adaptive sync technology FreeSync. So you’ll want to pair this up with an AMD card for super smooth tear free gaming up to 60hz.
Build Quality
The LG 27UD68P is an attractive sleek looking monitor, it’s a premium 4k screen so you’d expect the design to match up. I like the minimal look of the bezel, and the elegant stand. This is good news in a market that seems to either promote go faster red stripes that might look right in a teenage bedroom or the other end of the scale, just plain boring. So it’s nice to see a monitor that I’d actually like to show off in my study area.
You get a choice of DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 sockets, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack for you to pop your headphones into – whilst Apple don’t think we need headphone sockets anymore, I still have a couple of premium headphones that need to be plugged in!
The screen has an anti glare coating that has been criticised for giving off a cheap feel, along the lines of a mobile phone protective cover. This is no deal breaker but it detracts from the overall decent IPS performance.
Performance
The 4k screen is going to look stunning, coupled with an IPS panel you’re going to get great colour accuracy from a wide range of viewing angles. That said, ultra high definition resolution means an ultra high performance rig to power it. These screens have several orders of magnitude more pixels to power compared to traditional HD and that takes some power behind the scenes. You’ll want to be running a top range mondern card to get a good experience, that means something along the lines of a GTX 1080 for example.
But do remember that monitors are one of the longer lasting bits of kit and it makes sense to future proof your game station by buying something that will last. So whilst your current PC might struggle you can always run it in a lower resolution (which of course won’t look so good) until PC hardware drops in price. It seems likely that 4k ready cards will drop into the realms of mere mortal affordability in the next year or two.
The 27UD68P includes FreeSync technology which automatically adapts the monitor’s display rate to the rate of your video card’s output. Good news if your PC can’t yet sustain 60 fps at UHD resolution.
On the downside, some owners have reported issues with backlight bleed, with some being affected more than others. Whether this is a problem will depend on whether you are unlucky and whether you are sensitive to the effect. At least if you buy from somewhere like Amazon you should have no problem sending it back if needed.

Should I buy the LG 27UD68P?
The LG 27UD68P is a top quality 4k screen that looks the part. You'll need a powerful rig to get the best out of 4k, in games at least, but if you're graphics card can't sustain 60 frames per second at this resolution then at least FreeSync will have your back ensuring smooth animation even when the frame rates do drop. If you are having some doubts about this purchase then why not read some real owner reviews and see what other buyers think.

No, there are no USB ports on this model. Personally this doesn’t bother me as I’ve never made use of these monitor ports, my PC is within easy reach and has all the ports I need. But if you like an additional hub then you may find this annoying.
Sure you can! If you don’t have the power to game at 4k just yet then you can always switch to a lower resolution. Note that sometimes this down scaling can look inferior to a native 1080p screen however owners of the monitor have reported that it looks fine. I’ve not seen it myself.
