The LG is an affordable 27″ QHD monitor with a number of features built in to provide a smooth gaming performance. Whilst 4K is becoming more widespread it isn’t always the right choice, it doesn’t add a lot to smaller monitor and you need a powerful GPU to actually run it, something that not all of us can get hold of right now. 27″ 1440p is a good compromise for those not wanting to break the bank but want a step up from 1080p.
With a blistering 144hz refresh rate and a high quality IPS panel that provides wide viewing angles and accurate colours, the LG UltraGear 27GN800 is going to tick a lot of boxes for anyone gaming at home.
Build Quality

The LG UltraGear 27GN800 is a smart looking monitor with some “gamer” touches, it won’t look too out of place in a home office that doubles up as a gaming room after hours.
The stand itself is limited to tilt asjustments only which isn’t much use in my book, I’d be bolting on a monitor arm via the 100 x 100 VESA fixing.
You won’t have any problems hooking this monitor up to a modern setup, it comes with DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0 ports and a headphone jack.
Performance

Under the hood, the The UltraGear 27GN800 is backed by an IPS panel by BOE (MV270QHM-NF1). IPS technology is known for providing superior viewing angles and accurate colours even when looking at the screen side on.
Supporting 99% sRGB colour gamut and HDR10 (High Dynamic Range), this monitor is more than capable of producing vibrant, saturated colours. Peak brightness will be around 350nits and the contrast ratio will be up to 1:1000. This is fairly average for an IPS panel and you’d be looking at other technologies to get better contrast ratios. A VA panel, for example, would be capable of deeper blacks.
The 27GN800 has a fast response time and you’re not going to notice any delay when gaming on this screen. And with a game friendly refresh rate of 144hz you’ll enjoy smooth images on this screen. You will need a graphics card that can output 144 1440p frames every second, but G-Sync is able to step in when the frame rate drops and can keep things looking good.
