The Samsung RG50 is a gaming monitor capable of displaying an astonishing 240hz rendition of your favourite games, assuming your PC can output frames fast enough! We’ve seen monitors this fast before but Samsung is claiming this is the first on the market with a curved screen. So if you are a fan of the curved gaming experience then the RG50 is going to be of interest to you.
This model is a 27″ monitor with a standard high definition resolution. Coupled with that, you have Nvidia’s GSync technology baked in for smooth tear free gaming. This all comes in at a very reasonable price, this model has definitely got us interested. Let’s take a further look at what’s on off here.
Build Quality

You’ll be up and running in no time, the stand is easily snapped into place and there isn’t much adjusting you can do here. You get a limited pivot option and obviously rotation doesn’t make much sense with a curved monitor. There is a 75 x 75 VESA mounting option for those that want more adjustability options but note it’s a bit fiddly to attach due to the curve. This is slightly smaller than the 100 x 100 mounting option that is far more common in the desktop monitor market so watch out if you already have existing mounting brackets.
There are super thin bezels on the top and sides of the frame making it really good for a multi monitor setup. For connectivity you get two HDMI and a DisplayPort socket, along with a headphone jack. There are no speakers on this model.
The 1500R curved screen is fairly pronounced and will provide an immersive gaming experience. Whether you enjoy this sort of setup or not is down to you, some find the curve distracting when it comes to productivity so it’s not for everyone. Great for games though!
Performance

The Samsung is backed by a VA 1080p panel which typically gives darker blacks, richer colours and superior viewing angles over the cheaper TN style technologies. An impressive 3000:1 contrast ration makes this great for dark atmospheric games where you never know what is lurking in the shadows!
If you have a compatible Nvidia card then you can also take advantage of the built in GSync module that allows for smooth tear free gaming. If your PC’s output can’t generate 240 frames every second the monitor will automatically synchronise to avoid screen tearing.
Gaming performance is fantastic as expected, the 4ms response time and 240hz frame rate is going to make this model feel very snappy indeed.
On the down side, there is no HDR support, out of the box calibration isn’t ideal and at only 300 nits brightness you might notice a difference if coming from a brighter screen.
